Support Palestinian Independence, Unila and FRPKB Hold International Webinar

(Unila): Political dynamics in the Middle East region, especially the conflict between Palestine and Israel is very complex and dynamic. These dynamics are closely related to the dimensions of history, religion, civilization, international politics, and aspects of humanity.

In fact, until now efforts to resolve the Palestinian-Israeli dispute have always met a dead end. There is no visible progress in a more encouraging direction.

Recently, the world’s citizens have seen how tense the situation in Palestine is. Victims have fallen again, although in recent times conditions have begun to subside with the ceasefire.

This very heartbreaking event was shared by everyone, especially the sadness experienced by the Palestinians. This war has clearly violated the principles of universal human rights.

The principle consists of five dimensions, namely civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights. The five are actually inherent in every human being and cannot be revoked or taken away.

Based on these facts, the University of Lampung (Unila) through the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences (FISIP) and UPT PKLI Unila, in collaboration with the Rector’s Forum for Strengthening National Character (FRPKB) initiated an international webinar to show its support for Palestinian independence.

The joint commitment of all citizens of the world, including international communication, in giving full attention and support to the existence and independence of Palestine and efforts for peace in the Middle East.

The webinar with the theme Palestine’s Independence: The Road to World Peace will be held on Monday, May 24, 2021, offline and online. This webinar presents the Palestinian Ambassador to Indonesia H.E. Dr. Zuhair Al-Shun and a number of speakers.

They include Trias Kuncahyono as Kompas Senior Journalist Prof. Mohd Kamarulnizam from the School of International Studies University Utara Malaysia, and Zuhairi Misrawi, M.A., as an Expert on Middle East Issues.

Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Unila Prof. Heryandi, S.H., M.S., who was present on behalf of the Chancellor of Unila, expressed his firm stance on the human rights violations experienced by Palestinians.

He hopes that the webinar held can contribute and provide solutions to the independence of Palestine which is the path to world peace in the form of thoughts.

“I strongly condemn every act of human rights violations, torture, deprivation of property rights, massive killings of civilians in Gaza Palestine,” he said in his remarks.

He realized that conflict would eventually leave grief, loss of loved ones, and countless other damages. Therefore it takes good faith from both parties.

The joint commitment of all citizens of the world, including international communication, in giving full attention and support to the achievements and independence of Palestine and efforts for peace in the Middle East.

“May there be lasting peace and social justice in Palestine,” said Prof. Heryandi as he closed his speech.

Enter the core material session moderated by Dr. Ari Darmastuti, the Palestinian Ambassador to Indonesia, said that the Palestinian issue is the hottest problem in the world that the Palestinian people are still suffering from today. Because of the occupation, killing, destruction, arrest, and forcible transfer of citizens.

Dr. Zuhair hopes that all parties, especially Indonesia, will provide support and assistance in various ways including through politics, diplomacy, law and economy to form a very strong front in dealing with crimes from repeated attacks.

“We know that Indonesia has an important role in the international community, regional and international organizations, as a force, as a country that supports Palestine in upholding justice. Hence the need to unite efforts and cooperate in exposing enemy practices and attacks.”

He also reported the scale of devastation caused by brutal attacks throughout the Palestinian territories that have claimed more than 259 lives. These included 69 child victims and 40 female victims and the elderly.

The injured have reached more than 8,000 people and more than 2,000 destruction of buildings and residences and eviction of residents.

The Palestinian people, in the historical land of Palestine, are determined to remain steadfast and will not leave this land and will work to determine their destiny in achieving Palestinian independence with Jerusalem as its capital and returning refugees to their homes wherever they were displaced due to the Nakba incident, which is an implementation of resolution 194.

“In the end we said there is no other option but we have to face and we have to fight against this aggression. Jerusalem is fixed and non-negotiable, nothing is negotiable without Jerusalem.

Finally, we convey to all of you, thank you for the event that has been held, “he said.

The event continued with the presentation of the other three speakers. In this session, each speaker presented their views with different perspectives. Trias Kuncahyano said that one of the great strengths of the Palestinian people to fight for their independence is the unity and integrity of the Palestinian nation.

In this case, Indonesia can share the experience of its struggle for independence. The struggle began by putting aside, throwing away all personal, group interests and all focusing on the interests of the nation.

Meanwhile, Zuhairi Misrawi, M.A., revealed that several solutions that can encourage Palestinian independence include realizing Hamas and Fatah reconciliation, promoting peace between Palestine and Israel and proposing the ideology of Pancasila as the state basis to unite the Palestinian people.

At the last presentation, Prof. Mohd Kamarulnizam said that the Israeli-Palestinian conflict was also discussed from the point of view of how the western media used the power of media framing to cover up facts and weaken Palestine’s existence in the world. [Public Relations/Angel]
