      Applications Now Open for Darmasiswa 2017/2018

      DARMASISWA is a scholarship program offered to all foreign students from countries which have diplomatic relations with Indonesia to study Indonesian language (Bahasa Indonesia), art and culture in 59 universities in 2017. This program was established in 1974 as part of ASEAN initiative, admitting only students from ASEAN countries. However, in 1976 this program was extended further to other countries. Today, the number of countries participating in this program is more than 111 countries and it is organised by the Ministry of Education and Culture with the cooperation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia.

      The main purpose of DARMASISWA program is to promote and increase the interest in the language, art and culture of Indonesia among youth of other countries. It has also been designed to provide stronger cultural links and understanding among participating countries.

      → SCHEDULE OF PROGRAM

      • Online Registration (until 9 February 2017)
      • Interview at the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (13 February – 3 March 2017)
      • First Option Academic Selection (4 – 10 March 2017)
      • Second Option Academic Selection (13 – 31 March 2017)
      • Announcement of the Selection Results (7 April 2017)
      • Confirmation of Participant (8 April – 16 June 2017)
      • Submission of Flight Itinerary (8 April – 1 August 2017)
      • Orientation Program (last weeks of August 2017)
      • Commencement of Studies (last weeks of August or early September 2017)

      → VISA ARRANGEMENT

      To study in Indonesia, the Darmasiswa participant is required to have a social visit visa issued by the Indonesian Embassy in the participant’s country of residence. Upon arrival in Indonesia, the Darmasiswa participant’s passport has to be submitted to the Bureau of Planning and International Cooperation, Ministry of National Education, for necessary arrangements in obtaining recommendations of the State Secretariat and the Directorate General of Immigration, Departement of Law and Human Rights. The participants are prohibited to apply for tourist visa for study purposes.

      → ACCOMODATION

      The Ministry of National Education doesn’t provide the accommodation for participants.
      The participants have to find their own accommodation assisted by the higher education institution during their study.
      The participants may rent a house/room in accordance with their preference and financial capacity.

      → COVERAGE OF SCHOLARSHIP

      Tuition fee
      Living Cost:
      Rp. 2.850.000 (Area 1: Jakarta, Bandung, Surabaya, Denpasar, Makassar, Manado);
      Rp. 2.450.000 (Area 2: Aceh, Padang, Palembang, Purwokerto, Semarang, Yogyakarta, Surakarta, Malang, Samarinda)

      Participants will be provided with accomodation and transportation during the Orientation Program if the arrival time is within the schedule from the Ministry of Education and Culture;
      Participants will get settlement allowance when attending the Orientation Program;
      Participant’s legal permit arrangement with the help of the Host University will be supported by the Ministry of Education and Culture;
      Participants may seek assistance from the Host University in finding a house/room to rent which is included in the monthly stipend;
      Participants are advised to bring enough money in US Dollar for an unexpected additional expenses in Indonesia.

      → PROCEDURES

      The applicant should register through the following procedures:
      Prospective students are required to register online via the website: http://apply.darmasiswa.kemdikbud.go.id and must be in the country of origin of the students.

      → QUALIFICATIONS OF PARTICIPANTS

      Each student has to fulfill these requirements as the follows:

      a. Preferably Student
      b. Completed secondary education or its equivalent
      c. Minimum age 17 years and not older than 35 years
      d. Unmarried
      e. Able to comunicate in English and additional Bahasa Indonesia is required (proven by an English Language Proficiency Certificate such as TOEFL/TOEIC/IELTS or other certififacates if applicable)
      f. In good health proven by medical certificate
      g. Have basic knowledge of the field you’re applying for

      → APLICATION REQUIREMENTS

      Student must submit a complete application package that includes all the following items:
      a. Register the online application form (http://apply.darmasiswa.kemdikbud.go.id);
      b. Medical Certificate;
      c. Recommendation Letter from Educational Institution / Professional Institution on official letterhead and signature (in English);
      d. Last academic transcript and certificates (in English);
      e. Language certificate;
      f. Other certificates that are related to the field of study you are applying for;
      g. Writing essay about the purpose of study (in English or Bahasa Indonesia maximum 500 words);

      → ARRIVAL TO INDONESIA

      The Government of the Republic of Indonesia, in this term is Bureau of Planning and International Cooperation, The Ministry of Education and Culture does not provide airfare tickets. The Ministry of Education and Culture will provide travel expenses for participant from Jakarta to the place of study, while the travel expenses from the place of study to Jakarta is not provided.

      → HEALTH INSURANCE

      The Ministry of Education and Culture will not provide any health insurance, therefore the participants are expected to have the International insurance.
