Lampung is one of the provinces in Indonesia which has a variety of traditional arts, one of which is traditional dance. In the province at the southernmost tip of Sumatra Island, you will find traditional dance used in traditional ceremonies and ceremonial events. One of them, namely Sigekh Panguten Dance which is a kind of welcoming dance for guests at official events. The dynamic combination of music, graceful movements, magnificent costumes, interaction ceremonies giving betel nut, make Sigek Penguten as a favorite dance learned by Darmasiswa students at Lampung University. This dance has also been performed by Unila students at the 2011 debriefing program in Jakarta as a dance of worship and opening of the event.
The Unila scholarship also presented the Sigekh Penguten which they learned at art events on campus. With their cheerfulness and graceful movements, the guests who came did not expect this dance to be performed by foreign students.
